Month 2, Week 1, Earth Path Foundations

There is no assignment here, but I want to make some observations; the first being that I am in full agreement with the ideas put forth here.  From the lesson:

-“..as hunter/gatherers.  Such a lifestyle requires a vast knowledge of the seasons, and of the patterns and habits of wildlife, and of plants and herbs and their healing powers.”

Though living in the world few consider their impact upon the same.  Consider stepping outside your front door and onto your lawn without shoes.  Cool grass and earth press against your bare feet – soil to soles (to soul).  Small stones come to your attention as you walk, as does brittle grass and the earth that begins to work its way between your toes.  In addition to a ‘knowledge of seasons’ and their patterns, we may also note how little we pay attention to the small details before us.  More than what we feel, consider that in turn,  Earth is touching you back.  Earth and all that grows on her are more than alive, but have a presence.  As breath enters our lungs enriching our blood, so too does Earth sustain our Being.

-“Our brains are wired for the outdoors and nature, not for urbanization.

Nature creates within us a shuddering and dazzling intensity of immensity, in contrast to our remarkably small and insignificant role.  In fact, it is the same smallness that prompts us to create shelter about us – first within the Earth herself, then earthwork buildings, then independent structures, and now one-upmanship  style architecture.  The further we have moved from Earth’s protective embrace – concealing ourselves with technologies – the further removed we have come from our Self.

-“..the Black Mountain Druid Order is a philosophy combining elements of psychology and ecology.”

Many include in their definition of shamanism the ‘intermediary’ nature of this role; specifically, how such individuals meet and interact with the Spirit world.  My definition is that of intermediary between the tribe and nature.

-“Nature makes it easier to meditate, and meditation makes it easier to achieve emotional and mental wellbeing.”

Meditation is nothing less than participation.  There is a gap between the bodymind and the world about us - an opening waiting to be filled with awareness.

Live Deliberately!
